YOUTH RESOURCE CENTERS
The Madison Metropolitan School District and MSCR have received grants from Dane County Human Services, City of Madison, Town of Madison and the United Way of Dane County, in order to establish Youth Resource Centers atnine MMSD Middle Schools. A variety of after school, evening and weekend recreation activities, educational opportunities and service opportunities are offered for students and families. For more information contact MSCR or the Youth Resource Center Director at each school which is listed below.
AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS 204-3052
A variety of special interest clubs are available at all MMSD middle schools. Please contact the Youth Resource Center Director or MSCR Recreation Counselor at your school. Clubs may include horseback riding, drama, music, bowling, chess, dance, skiing, canoeing and more. Clubs are based on student interest at each school. Fees may be charged for some clubs.
AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS 204-3026
Selected after school team sports are available at all MMSD middle schools. Please contact the Youth Resource Center Director or MSCR Recreation Counselor at your school. Sports offered in the past have included volleyball, flag football, basketball, wrestling, swimming, tennis and softball. Competition is with other MMSD middle schools. Due to facility and staff limitations, some of the team sports which involve competing with other MMSD middle schools, are offered for 7th and 8th grade students only. Intramural sports activities are organized within each school for 6th grade students.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIALS 204-3022
Middle School Socials held every month from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. on both the east and west side of Madison. Activities include open gym, game room, D.J. and pizza! Students must present a current middle school I.D. for admission to the social. Cost is $3.00. Register at the door on day of the social.
RECREATION COUNSELORS/YOUTH RESOURCE CENTER DIRECTORS
Each middle school has either a Recreation Counselor or a Youth Resource Center Director to coordinate after school activities for students. Check the MSCR booth at middle school registration in August for a complete listing or check with the following individual at your school to learn more about club and sport opportunities.
