Youth Art Instructor
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is the public recreation provider for the residents of Madison (within the boundaries of the Madison Metropolitan School District.) MSCR’s youth art program is a vibrant and welcoming program dedicated to introducing a love of art to individuals ages 18 months and up and all skill levels. We offer a variety of recreational art classes, including painting, drawing, mixed media, process art and more. Our program is designed to ignite young imaginations and foster creativity.
Job Description & Duties:
We are seeking passionate and creative individuals to create and teach art classes to youth of all ages and backgrounds in Madison. This position involves teaching art classes to youth, fostering their artistic abilities, and providing a fun and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement age-appropriate art curriculum and lesson plans.
Teaching art techniques, such as drawing, painting, fiber arts, sewing and mixed media.
Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Manage classroom behavior and ensure a safe and orderly learning space.
Prepare and organize art supplies and materials.
Assist with classroom maintenance (cleanliness, organization, etc.) and administrative tasks as needed (attendance, communication with families, etc.).
Program Dates:
Summer session begins the week of 6/23 and end the week of 8/15. No classes on 7/3 or 7/4 or the weekends. Opportunity to continue teaching for future sessions.

- Hours a Week:
Varies.
- Work Hours:
Varies based on availability. Classes are generally in the mornings beginning around 9am and ending around noon in the summer or in the evenings beginning around 4pm and ending no later than 9pm. Your schedule will be based on your availability.
- Pay Rate:
$17-37 per hour based on experience.
- Minimum Qualifications:
Must have formal art training .
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field preferred, degree in progress is acceptable.
Past experience working with youth.
Previous art instruction experience required for lead instructors. - Preferred Qualifications:
Strong classroom management skills.
Experience teaching art to a variety of age groups including pre-schoolers.
Experience working with youth from various backgrounds.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong artistic skills and knowledge of art techniques.
Ability to inspire creativity and foster a love of art.
Spanish speaking a plus. - Other Information:
