About Madison School & Community Recreation
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) serves a community of 230,000 in Madison, WI, with 75 full time and 2200+ seasonal staff members. MSCR offers a full range of recreation programs and services utilizing school facilities, parks, and other community facilities. Programs include fitness, aquatics, adult and youth sports, after school child care, summer camps, outdoor adventure, middle school youth resource centers, arts, and sports camps. MSCR is a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District, providing public recreation and after school programming for the Madison community since 1926.

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of this position is to manage and supervise MSCR Afterschool and Enrichment programming during the school year and serve as summer program director during the summer.
Primary Functions/Expectations:
The following duties are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
Specific Duties:
Design, implement and supervise MSCR afterschool care and enrichment programs, and evening student and family enrichment programs. Serve as on-site supervisor for school-year programs at home school.
Develop, promote, and coordinate childcare programs on non-school days.
Establish physically and emotionally safe program environments. Ensure compliance with State and District quality standards.
Serve as a liaison between MSCR, school personnel, community members, parents and community agencies.
Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff and volunteers.
Develop work schedules for staff, submit and approve payroll.
Work with school principal, community members, families and participants to assess needs, resolve problems and concerns.
Order and distribute program supplies and equipment.
Manage program level budgets.
Ensure program success through compliance with Department of Children and Families regulations, MSCR/MMSD policies and grant requirements, as applicable. Maintain records and data through required processes.
Work with community agencies in collaborative partnerships to maximize resources and bring community resources into programs.
Attend MSCR staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Ensure that staff and participants follow MSCR and MMSD policies and procedures.
- Locations Emerson Elementary
- Hours a Week:
40 hours per week.
- Work Hours:
Varies Monday-Friday, 9:30am-6:30pm, with occasional evening and weekend work during school year. Summer hours may differ depending on placement.
- Pay Rate:
$29.25 per hour.
- Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma and at least two years of post high school education in recreation, education, community organizing, volunteer coordination, related field or equivalent experience.
At least one year of related experience in developing, managing, leading, and evaluating recreation programs, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and recreation program planning knowledge, and experience.
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with staff, customers, and community organizations.
Proven leadership abilities and effective problem-solving skills.
Commitment to teamwork, partnership, and positive relationship building.
Experience working with individuals and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to perform when confronted with emergency, unusual and/or crisis situations.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with racially and culturally diverse participants, staff, parents, school staff and with the community. - Preferred Qualifications:
Experienced in positive youth development – preferably with middle school students
Proficiency with Google workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel.
First Aid and/or CPR certification.
Bilingual in Spanish. - Other Information:
Physical and Sensory Requirements
Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to stoop, climb, balance and crouch.
Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
Ability to determine characteristics, similarities and differences between colors and sounds of job-related objects, tasks and materials.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier.Next Steps:
