Middle School Creative Arts Instructor- Summer 2025

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description:
The Creative Arts/Stem Exploration Camp is open to middle school students of all experience levels with art. Camp staff lead structured art projects, games, crafts, and traditional camp activities.Enrich the art experience through field trips that explore theater, dance, pottery, and other art forms, while nurturing creativity and fostering an appreciation for artistic expression.

Job Description & Duties:
Design and lead fine arts activities (drawing, painting, sculpting) and organize general camp activities (water games, circle games, team-building, and recreational challenges), ensuring they are age-appropriate, engaging, and inclusive for all participants. Assist with camper supervision and support, which includes supervising middle school campers throughout the day, ensuring their safety and well-being, providing individualized support to campers with disabilities and managing group dynamics to maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Create a camp environment that fosters a welcoming and inclusive space by modeling positive interactions, addressing behavioral or safety concerns promptly, and collaborating with staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication.

    Up to 40 hours per week.

  • Work Hours:

    8:30am-4:30pm.

  • Pay Rate:

    $18-23 per hour.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Follow program rules to keep campers safe by upholding high behavioral expectations.
    Willingness to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team.
    Ability to demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.
    Ability to engage campers throughout the entire day of camp and create a safe and fun environment for campers to thrive.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR Certified or willing to get certified.
    Previous experience working with different types of art.
    Previous resident/day camp staff experience.
    Experience creating and participating in camp culture and community.
