Youth Strength & Conditioning Instructor – Summer 2025

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description:

MSCR Youth Fitness inspires youth, ages 3-13 to lead active, healthy lives through teaching of basic movement skills, getting their hearts pumping and building healthy habits and strong bodies through games and activities led by experienced instructors.

Job Description & Duties:

Utilizing expertise in strength training principles, the instructor will design and deliver safe, effective, and enjoyable workouts that promote participant well-being for youth ages 8-13. The primary responsibility of the instructor is to provide a safe, challenging, and fun environment for all MSCR participants.

Deliver high-quality, community-based youth strength based fitness classes.
Provide a fun and engaging experience for all participants through a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Ensure all equipment required for class is set-up before and put away after each class.
Prepare appropriate progressions and exercise alternatives to meet the needs of individual participants.
Ability to visually cue and demonstrate exercises.
Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with class participants.
Follow all policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook.
Ensure arrival time allows for proper set up so that class begins on time, ends on time and that area is cleaned up after class.

Program Dates:

4/1/25-6/3/25, 6/24/25-8/19/25

  • Locations
  • Hours a Week:

    1-2 hours per week.

  • Work Hours:

    Tuesdays 4:45pm-6:15pm.

  • Pay Rate:

    $25-33 per hour.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    One year of experience instructing strength-based fitness classes.
    One year of experience working with youth.
    Knowledge of MSCR programs and mission.
    Ability to visually cue and demonstrate exercises.
    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    Reliable transportation.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    CPR/AED Certification (or ability to obtain in 45 days).
    A current Fitness or Group Fitness – related certification.
    Previous experience in delivering fitness solutions in a group format with a diversity of backgrounds and goals.
    Actively seek out and engage in continuing education/professional development opportunities, including additional relevant certifications.
