MSCR Summer 2024 Camps

MSCR Middle School Camps offer something for every child entering grades 6 – 9.

MSCR is excited to share the Summer 2024 Camps Guide! Plan a fun summer for your child. The camps guide is in the middle of the Summer 2024 Program Guide and begins distribution in the Wisconsin State Journal on Sunday, March 3. Residents, who are not Sunday subscribers, receive their guide in the mail the week of March 4.

Plan Ahead
Save time during camp registration by completing or updating your Camp Supplemental Information in advance. Register for course #40142 between Feb 24 and March 10 to add or update your child’s emergency contact and medical information that is required for summer camp registration.
PLEASE NOTE: Completing this process does not guarantee registration in camps. Guardians still need to register for camps on Monday, March 11 beginning at 12pm.

Camp Descriptions 2024

Camp Adventure

Explore and experience the great outdoors through rock climbing, canoeing, hiking, swimming, field trips & one overnight camping trip per session. Camp Adventure focuses on teaching leadership, team building & outdoor skills. Takes place at Burrows & Westmorland Parks.


MAD City Sports Camp

Youth of all skill levels learn sports fundamentals through presentations, demonstrations, games and recreational camp activities. The focus is on building skills, sportsmanship, confidence and having fun. Learn health and fitness tips that can improve athletic ability and coordination. Be prepared to actively participate and sweat. Please note: this camp is for youth who enjoy being active! Takes place at Hamilton & Sherman Middle Schools.


Middle School on the Move

Middle School on The Move is an inclusive camp for all. Weekly themes for activities allow campers to choose the weeks that match their
interests. Activities are related to the theme with afternoon recreational field trips like swimming, paddling, ropes course and visiting parks. Takes place at Sherman and Spring Harbor Middle Schools.


Creative Arts

Come join Creative Arts! This camp caters to all experience-level adolescent artists. Staff lead campers through various structured art projects using diverse mediums and techniques. Beyond art, campers engage in enjoyable activities, from entertaining games, to hands-on arts and crafts, and classic camp pastimes. This camp provides a comprehensive experience beyond the basics of drawing. The unique approach includes immersive field trips, exposing campers to diverse art forms such as theater, dance, pottery and more. We strive to broaden their understanding of art, fostering an appreciation for its many facets. Join us as we embark on a creative adventure, where each camper discovers the expansive world of artistic expression.
Takes place at Hamilton & O’Keeffe Middle Schools.


Spring Harbor Green House Garden Program

Learn the joys of botany, horticulture and gardening while working at Spring Harbor’s sustainable greenhouse. Tend gardens, plant and harvest produce, design and construct new garden plots, and help restore local environments. Building on Spring Harbor Middle School’s environmental mission, the program discusses methods to protect and nurture local habitats through maintenance and restoration activities. Learn how to design and build rain gardens, rain barrels and much more. Prepare foods grown in the garden. A healthy daily snack is provided. Takes place at Spring Harbor Green Middle School.


STEM

Explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields connected to research at UW Madison. Students engage in activities to make observations and investigate environmental science, explore a variety of STEM careers, and discover their science identity. Registration is coordinated through MSCR Afterschool.

REGISTRATION CHANGES & REFUNDS

All changes to your registration including cancellations, withdrawals and transfers must be made in writing and received in the MSCR administrative office, (328 E Lakeside Street) at least 7 days prior to the start of the session. Refunds for withdrawals are issued up to 7 days prior to the start of the program, minus the service charge listed below:

• $20 per full-day camp session

• $10 per half-day camp session

• $5 per non-camp program

• No refunds or credits are issued with less than 7 days advance notice.

PAYMENT PLANS

Payment plans must be requested using an MSCR Registration Form and are not available during online registration. A non-refundable deposit is required for each day camp session and is due at the time of registration, except for families requesting fee assistance:

• $20 deposit for each full day camp session.

• $10 deposit for each half-day camp session A credit card number is required and is automatically charged the week prior to camp for the outstanding weekly balance. Your signature on the registration authorizes MSCR to initiate recurring credit card charge(s) as per the scheduled listed below.

FEE ASSISTANCE

MSCR youth program fees may be partially or fully waived for persons meeting the criteria for free or reduced price school meals. Fee assistance is limited to two programs per season per person (i.e. 2 weeks of summer camp)* and is available only to MMSD residents. *If your family needs fee assistance for more than two programs, please indicate this on the Fee Assistance Form on page 58. Fee assistance is not available online and must be submitted to our office at the time of registration; fee assistance is not granted after the registration has been processed.

 

CANCELLATIONS:

In the event of severe weather, please check mscr.org or call 608-204-3044  for program cancellations. MSCR may cancel programs due to severe weather, facility conflicts, staff illness or other unforeseen circumstances.
