Masters Swim Coach
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Program Description:
MSCR offers a variety of aquatics based fitness classes for adults of all skill levels. Masters swim is a coached workout program for participants able to swim a minimum of 500 yards continuously looking to improve endurance, stroke technique, and speed through participating in 1800+ yard sets.
Job Description & Duties:
- Plan structured workouts that accommodate various skill levels and training goals, incorporating drills, endurance training, and interval sets.
- Provide individualized feedback and technical instruction to help participants improve stroke efficiency, speed, and technique.
- Create a welcoming environment that supports swimmers in achieving their personal goals.
- Locations Madison East High School (spring), Madison West High School (summer)
- Hours a Week:
4 hours per week (can be combined with other positions within MSCR).
- Work Hours:
5:30-7:30am, Tuesdays/Fridays for spring; Tuesdays/Thursdays for Summer.
- Pay Rate:
$27.00 – $29.00 /hour
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Coaching or competitive swimming experience with a strong understanding of stroke mechanics.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate swimmers of varying abilities.
- Lifeguarding Certification with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience coaching and/or teaching adult swimming.
- U.S. Masters Swimming Coach certification.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
- Other Information:
Opportunities to receive Lifeguarding and/or WSI Certification through MSCR.
