Middle School Basketball Coach

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description:
MSCR offers middle school programming for all middle schools in the Madison Metropolitan School District. This includes after school sports at each MSCR site. Our programs focus on creating a positive and inclusive environment where kids of all skill levels can thrive and build lifelong skills.

Job Description & Duties:
Are you passionate about basketball and inspiring young athletes?

MSCR is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Middle School Basketball Coach to lead our basketball program. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the game, a commitment to player development, and a passion for fostering a positive team culture.

Responsibilities:
Develop and implement effective practice plans to improve players’ skills and techniques.
Lead team practices and games, providing clear instruction and feedback.
Create a positive and supportive team environment that emphasizes hard work, discipline, and teamwork.
Instill core values of sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic, personal responsibility, and competitiveness.
Encourage positive behavior and conduct among players.
Maintain accurate records of player attendance, eligibility, and progress.
Adhere to all district, league, and state regulations.
Collaborate with school administration, athletic directors, and other staff to ensure program success.

Program Dates: 1/13/2025-3/8/2025.

    18.5 hours per week.

  • Work Hours:

    2:30pm-6:00pm.

  • Pay Rate:

    $17 per hour.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Passion for basketball and working with young athletes.
    Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
    CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior coaching experience at the middle school level or equivalent.
    Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques.
