MSCR Bilingual Outreach Specialist – 1.0 (40 hpw)
Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.
As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!
Purpose of this Position
Provide Spanish language translation and interpretation, lead community outreach initiatives supporting MSCR programs and employment opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Translate 60+ page MSCR Program Guide into Spanish three times annually. Format Spanish version using Adobe InDesign software.

Translate all MSCR program materials into Spanish.

Serve as the primary point of contact for Spanish speaking customers assisting with registration and program information.

Coordinate distribution of seasonal program guides, maintain mailing and distribution lists, package guides and serve as contact to schools, community centers and partner agencies.

Develop and lead outreach initiatives targeting the Spanish-speaking community.

Assist in the development and editing of marketing materials, including flyers, posters, and social media content.

Coordinate and represent MSCR at outreach events, order and maintain event supplies, and coordinate staffing

Manage seasonal job postings on the MSCR application system, MSCR website and external job sites. Maintain accurate hiring information on the MSCR website.

Support development, implementation and expansion of employee recruiting & retention efforts.

Take photos and create new employee ID badges.

Provide reception back-up and general customer service support.

Maintain a strong understanding of all MSCR programs, services, employment and volunteer opportunities.

Support other MSCR Operations and Marketing projects as assigned.

$31.06/hourly
- Minimum Qualifications:
-
Three years of successful experience doing translation and interpretation from English to Spanish, verbally and in written format.

Two years of successful office experience, preferably working in a marketing or outreach setting, or a combination of experience and formal training equivalent to two years of experience.

High level of written and verbal fluency in English and Spanish.

High level of proficiency working in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office & Excel

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse clientele, staff and community members, both orally and in writing, in English and in Spanish.

- Preferred Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to accurately translate complex marketing materials from English into Spanish. Primary translation duties include the MSCR Program Guide (55-65 pages), parent manuals, flyers and brochures.

Excellent writing skills in English and Spanish

Proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and/or the ability to quickly learn a variety of software.

Proven track record of successful task management, and prioritizing multiple competing tasks or projects working with many stakeholders

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Regular hours Monday through Friday between 8:00AM and 5:30pm, with occasional night and weekend hours to support department needs.
- Duties generally completed in sitting position. Normal range of vision and hearing required.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment such as personal computer, telephone, fax machine, calculator, computer printer and photocopier.
- Must be able to comprehend basic operating procedures and policies of the Madison School & Community Recreation department and its facilities. Must be able to comprehend oral instructions and read and comprehend written instructions.
