Outdoor Programs Coordinator: Paddling

Program Description:

MSCR’s Outdoor Programs hosts participants in paddling, teambuilding and environmental education with the goal of empowering and facilitating individual and group transformation through experiential learning. Paddling include both canoes and kayaks in a variety of different locations in Madison and surrounding areas.

Job Description & Duties:

Facilitate and lead outdoor experiential education programs, primarily paddling programs in canoes and recreational kayaks at various locations in the city of Madison.
Act as a lead facilitator for paddling programs; including hauling boat trailers to designated program locations.
Work collaboratively with other outdoor programs coordinators to assist in other areas as needed.
Assist with recruitment, training and evaluation of outdoor program instructors.
Assist with promotion of programs and recruitment of participants.
Maintain knowledge of current experiential and outdoor program trends in paddlesports.
Promote a positive working environment for all part time program staff.

MSCR Central and Program Site Locations.

  • Hours a Week:

    Up to 40 in peak season (May-Oct), up to 18.5 during non-peak season.

  • Work Hours:

    Average 30 hours per week, times vary.

  • Pay Rate:

    $20 per hour.

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for up to 8 hours.
    Physical ability to stand/sit for extended periods and lift at least 50lbs.
    Experience and comfortability facilitating outdoor paddlesports with youth and adults.
    Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and recreation program planning knowledge.
    Strong communication and customer service skills both verbally and in writing.
    Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Google platforms.
    Effective problem solving and risk management skills.
    Outgoing, enthusiastic personality and highly motivated with a positive attitude.
    Ability and willingness to become certified in First Aid, CPR/AED.
    Ability and willingness to submit DMV driver background check in order to become approved to drive district vehicles.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    Prior experience facilitating youth and adults in paddlesports.
    Prior experience training facilitators to lead and assist in offering paddlesports.
    Certified in paddlesports with American Canoe Association, or prior experience to attest to paddlesports skillset.
    Prior supervisory experience in paddlesports or other outdoor experiential education environment.
    Prior experience hauling equipment, including canoe and/or kayak trailers.
