Youth Track and Field Instructor – Summer 2025

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider.  MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center.  Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Program Description: 

MSCR’s Track and Field clinic is for participants in grades kindergarten – 8th grade with a wide range of experience and skill levels. This clinic provides for many track and field events. We focus on the fundamentals and skills of each event.

Job Description & Duties: 

Youth Track and Field Instructors are expected to plan and lead a group of elementary and middle school participants, instructing them in the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport. The emphasis is on skill building, fun, fitness, making new friends, sportsmanship and learning the sport. Youth Track and Field Instructors are responsible for promoting this atmosphere while keeping play safe and fun.

    3-8 hours a week

  • Work Hours:

    Weekdays, 5:45pm-7:30pm

  • Pay Rate:

    $17.00/hour

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Track and Field experience typically from high school or post secondary experience.
    • Experience in youth leadership.
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with a minimum of direct supervision.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with children, their parents/guardians, and the public.
    • Previous experience working with elementary and/or middle school aged children.
    • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the staff team
    • Self-directed and motivated to create and develop engaging plans.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    •  Background in coaching Track and Field
