MSCR is celebrating National Park & Recreation Month with Many Free, Drop In Activities

July is Park & Recreation Month and Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is celebrating by providing a variety of free, fun recreation activities for all ages throughout the month.

This year’s theme — “Where You Belong” — celebrates the many ways recreation professionals foster a sense of belonging in their community by building meaningful connections.

For people who have disabilities and their families

Saturday, July 20, 10-11:30am, at the Goodman Pool, 325 W Olin Ave

Guided Bicycle Trips

Join staff for a guided bike ride. Bicycle and helmet required.

  • For ages 50+: Wednesday, July 10, 12:30pm at Olbrich Shelter (Johns & Walter)
    12-14 miles. Tour Monona Lake and Monona Bay Loop
  • For ages 18+: Saturday, July 13, 9:30am at MSCR Central
    14 miles. Tour SW commuter path, Cannonball, Wingra and Cap City Trails

Fitness

For ages 18+, Bring your own mat.

  • Kickbox Cardio: Tuesday, July 16, 4:45-5:30pm at Garner Park
  • LGBTQIA+ Yoga: Wednesday, July 17, 5:30-6:30pm at Tenney Park
  • Pure Strength: Tuesday, July 23, 5:40-6:25pm at Garner Park

Free mobile Art, Clay & Play in the Park.

Nature Exploration

Spend time outdoors with MSCR’s nature activity kits! Each activity “kit” contains different types of activities. Best suited for ages 4-8 years.

  • Wednesday, July 10, 10am-12pm, Hoyt Park (Wildlife Theme)
  • Monday, July 29, 4-6pm, Kennedy Park (Insects Theme)

Paddling

Try canoeing or kayaking on Lake Monona. First come, first served. Best suited for ages 10+, anyone under 16 must paddle with an adult.

  • Friday, July 26, 12-2pm at Olin Park Boat Launch

Pontoon Boat Rides – Canceled 7/5 due to high water. Please check back.

Explore Lake Monona or Lake Mendota on the MSCR pontoon boats. All trips are first come, first served with no reservation available. $5 per person. Free ride tickets are available at any Madison Public Library. Pontoon rides take place Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Find the schedule at mscr.org
